If you have an inflatable or are thinking of buying one, you're probably wondering how to set it up. Before you start inflating, there are a number of important steps you need to take to prepare for the inflatable's arrival. Installation isn't very complicated: it's all a matter of planning ahead, just follow the different steps to ensure total safety.

Bring the essentials

Before you start, make sure you have all the equipment you need. This should include the inflatable, blower, tarp (optional), storage bag and stakes or ballast. Bring all your equipment to the venue.

Prepare the playing area

The first thing to do is to prepare the playing area. Determine the exact location of your structure. Remember that a safety zone is needed around the inflatable to allow for movement. You can check the number of metres required in the instructions you received when you bought your inflatable.

The ground must be level and free of stones and gravel. If your inflatable is to be used indoors, the ground must be clean and level. There should be no dangerous obstacles such as fences, sharp objects or trees in the way. If you have a tarpaulin, you can position it to define the area.

Installing the inflatable

Now it's time to set it up. Start by unfolding your inflatable on the marked area. Once you have unfolded it completely, place it correctly, taking into account where the players will enter the inflatable. Also consider the position of the blower.

Prepare the blower

You can now position the blower. The blower should be perpendicular to the structure. It should be positioned at least 1.23 m from a wall and 2.5 m from an open side. Make sure there are no folds in the sleeve. The next step is to strap the sleeve to the blower. For obvious safety reasons, the blower should not be within reach of the public.

Your electrical installation must comply with national standards and regulations. Electrical cables should also be concealed to prevent accidental disconnection by members of the public. If you have a blower cover, it should be fitted last.

Inflating the structure

Once the structure has been installed, you can start inflating it. The first thing to check is that the vents and connectors are closed. For an outdoor structure, the maximum wind speed should be less than 38 km/h (threshold no. 5 on the Beaufort scale: dust and paper fly away). If this is the case, you can inflate your inflatable by pressing the "ON" button on the blower. For safety reasons, no one should be inside the structure while it is inflating or deflating.

Fixing the inflatable to the ground

Inflatables usually have anchor points. These are used to secure the structure to the ground. The points are evenly distributed around the structure. The pegs (stakes) are placed in the holes provided. If the ground is not soft (concrete, resin, asphalt, etc.), ballasts can be used.

Check the installation

Your structure is almost finished! However, there is one last check to make before you let the children play. Make sure the blower is properly attached. The inflatable should be placed on a clean, smooth surface. There should be no dangerous objects nearby. Stakes or ballast should be properly hooked into the anchor points.

Things to remember

Have you just bought an inflatable and want to set it up? Don't panic: it's a simple process, but one that requires extra vigilance and a clear understanding of the space occupied by your structure. To help you, follow all the steps above. Each point must be followed carefully to ensure maximum safety for all. It is best for the staff in charge of the inflatable to check regularly during the day to ensure that conditions are still ideal and that nothing has moved. If you have any questions about the structure or its installation, you can also contact an inflatable professional: they will be able to answer your questions and even help you with the installation of your structure.
